Silvis, IL -- After an investigation was complete, it was determined that a 6 year old boy started the Dollar Store fire that destroyed the retail property.
Silvis police said the November 11 fire was started when a 6 year old boy brought a lighter into the store and set paper towels on fire. No one was injured, but it destroyed the store, causing $500,000 in damage.
No charges are being filed. Instead, local police and fire officials are educating the child and parents on fire safety.
