Macon Woman Dies 1 Week after Nursing Home Fire

One person has died from smoke inhalation suffered during last week's Macon nursing home fire.

Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones told 13WMAZ that 82-year-old Betty Smith died at the Medical Center of Central Georgia Monday night.

Smith had suffered smoke inhalation following the fire on March 25th at the Rosewood Nursing Home on Finney Circle off of Millerfield Road.

Macon-Bibb County Fire Chief Marvin Riggins said the blaze started around 2:30 in the morning and started in the facility's mechnical room and two other rooms suffered damage.

Nearly 100 residents were evacuated from the building and 11 were treated for smoke inhalation.

Fire officials originally said there were no serious injuries.
