5 Alarm Fire Destroys Warehouse | F.E. Moran Fire Protection

Brooklyn, NY -- Crews were putting out hot spots on Monday after a fire broke out on Sunday at a Brooklyn warehouse, destroying the property and all contents inside.

The fire grew to 5 alarms.  About two hundred firefighters responded to the fire.  They entered the warehouse on the ground floor, but the fire grew so strong they needed to pull out and douse the fire from the roof.

The warehouse was filled with restaurant supplies.  Everything was destroyed.

"It's some sort of a cold storage.  It's got a lot of refrigerators.  It's got a lot of restuarant supplies.  We assume that there's some sort of cooking oils in there because it's really burning," said FDNY Chief of Department James Leonard.

The fire was contained early Monday and did not spread to neighboring businesses.  One civilian was taken out on a stretcher and given oxygen.  A firefighter was treated for smoke inhalation.

Because of the intensity of the fire, the FDNY will keep a crew on the scene.

"[It's a] longer operation because it's like, as we use the term, 'surround and drown,' you really just like a deluge of water and basically just trying to flood everything out," said Battalion Chief Bob Endall.

This was the second 5-alarm fire that the crew needed to respond to.
