Reno, NV -- The Reno Fire Department was called to the scene of a fire at 3:43am.  Thankfully, by the time firefighters arrived, the fire was contained by an activated fire sprinkler.

The fire started in a third floor apartment when a cigarette was carelessly discarded.  The fire caused a small amount of damage before it was contained by fire sprinklers.

There were two tenants at home sleeping when the fire broke out.  They heard the smoke detector and escaped without injury.  Fourteen tenants were temporarily relocated.

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) says that the risk of dying when a fire is in your home is decreased by 82% when a fire sprinkler is installed.  On average, fire sprinklers stop a fire within 90 seconds.

Smoking materials are the number one cause of fire in the United States.  Smoking materials should always be discarded properly.
