Eureka, CA -- An alert civilian and a fire sprinkler system are to thank for the minimal damage to a body shop after a fire ignited.
A fire ignited when a paint recycler malfunctioned and sparked. The businesses fire sprinkler system activated and suppressed most of the flames. The civilian was walking by the business when he saw smoke at 6:40pm on Saturday. He called 911.
The arriving firefighters found smoke coming from roof vents and forced open the door. They found a small fire being controlled by fire sprinklers in the back of the body shop. They were able to extinguish the remaining flames within 15 minutes.
The body shop was only closed for business for 1.5 hours. The damage is estimated at only $6,000 - nothing compared to the cost of rebuilding the business and losing valuable production time.
