Grandfathered Building has Fire, No Fire Sprinklers | F.E. Moran Fire ProtectionCleveland -- A building that was grandfathered and was not required to have fire sprinklers had a massive fire.

The fire started Saturday at 6:30pm on the 8th floor penthouse apartment.  The apartment building is anchored by the City Tap.  The Cleveland Fire Department has reported that the building had no fire sprinklers because it was grandfathered in.

The fire was shooting through the roof when firefighters arrived.  About eighty arrived in total.  Cleveland Fire Department spokesman Larry Gray said, "When we arrived on the scene, it was total fire on that floor, as well as up on the roof.  So our main concern was first getting to the fire and second evacuating the building."

All floors were evacuated, totaling 55 occupants.  No injuries were reported.  However, the damage is extensive.  "We have issues with water pressure coming down from that high of a level.  We worry about floors collapsing, so we do a door to door walk through of each floor in addition to the evacuation process."
