Person Died at Scene of Assisted Living Fire
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. -
It was a busy morning for fire crews and law enforcement Wednesday.
Around 12:45 a.m., KJCT News 8 got reports that there was a small fire at Eagle Ridge Assisted Living at 2425 Teller Avenue in Grand Junction.
According to police, as firefighters arrived, a nurse at the facility found a small fire in one of the rooms and extinguished it. In that room a nurse also found a person who had been burned. That person died at the scene.
Because the fire was quickly extinguished, other residents were not evacuated.
The Grand Junction Police Department is handling the investigation, but at this time they have not found anything suspicious. They are not anticipating that any criminal charges will be filed.
The Mesa County Coroner's Office will be releasing further information regarding the identification of the victim as well as the cause and manner of death.
