At Least 1 Dead in Shadyside 7-alarm Apartment Building Fire

SHADYSIDE (KDKA) -At least one person has died in a seven-alarm apartment building fire in Shadyside Thursday morning.

According to emergency dispatchers, the fire broke out in a building on Bayard Street around 7:15 a.m. At its peak, the fire reached seven alarms.

The building is located across the street from the Winchester Thurston School, near the athletic field.

It appears that fire started on the fifth floor and it is feared that someone may still be inside.

The cause of the fire is not known and the identity of the victim is not known.

Firefighters are currently checking each apartment in the building.
